This high rating largely reflects the achievements of the research community of the Faculty of Biology UW, including our publications, patents, and grants.

NCBR grant for research on tuberculosis transmission

Dr hab. Tomasz Jagielski from the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, has received funding from the National Centre for Research and Development for the OBSERVTB project, focused on genomic surveillance of tuberculosis transmission in Europe and Latin America.

Michał Świrski, MSc, awarded the MSiSW scholarship for outstanding young scientists

Michał Świrski, MSc, from the Institute of Genetics and Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, has been awarded the scholarship of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young scientists. In the 21st edition of the competition, 1,640 applications were evaluated, and 230 recipients representing 54 scientific and artistic disciplines were selected.

Faculty of Biology UW study programmes among the best in the Perspektywy 2026 Ranking

The Biology and Biotechnology study programmes ranked 2nd in Poland, while the Environmental Protection programme took joint 1st place with the corresponding programme offered by the University of Gdańsk.

Wiktoria Orzeł, MSc, a doctoral candidate at the Institute of Genetics and Biotechnology, Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, has been awarded a prestigious START scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP).

Funding for dr hab. Karolina Archacka’s project in the Medical Research Agency’s TRANSMED I competition

Dr hab. Karolina Archacka from the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, received PLN 10,039,559 in funding in the Medical Research Agency’s TRANSMED I competition for a project focused on developing a protocol using functionalized peptide hydrogels to support skeletal muscle reconstruction.

A new diagnostic platform for parasitic diseases in dogs

Dr hab. Anna Zawistowska-Deniziak and Dr Eng. Mateusz Pękacz are co-authors of a project funded under the FENG funds in NCBR SMART competition. The aim of the project is to develop a test for the simultaneous detection of pathogens associated with dirofilariasis and leishmaniasis in dogs.

Grant Team Net FENG from the Foundation for Polish Science

The BIOGLOBE project, carried out by a consortium led by the University of Warsaw, received funding in the FNP TEAM NET competition. The principal investigator is Prof. Łukasz Drewniak. Congratulations!

Award from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for significant achievements in implementation activities

The award of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, in the category of implementation activities, was received by a team of researchers from the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw: Dr Klaudia Dębic-Andrzejewska (team leader), Prof. Łukasz Drewniak, Dr Namrata Joshi, Marcin Musiałowski, MA, and Maria Dąbrowska-Zawada, MA.
